Intro
Amelia's
is in its second season, a formal french restaurant,
located slightly out of town in a house, with
four dining rooms, each with four tables. The
service is "old school" not only with
impeccable white linens, but waiters who crumb
the table before offering dessert. The food is
wonderful and rich, with sauces for which the
French are known. Expensive, as other better known
restaurants, Amelia's
offers top quality food with available parking.
Ambiance |
This
was our first visit to Amelia's and we drove right
by it as it blends in so completely with the houses
on this quiet street. The huge parking lot eliminated
the usual hastle of narrow streets and limited parking
found in town. Entering this formal house, we were
greeting by the host in coat and tie, standing behind
the reservation desk. The rooms are formal with
gracious tall back mahogany chairs and square tables
placed in the corners of the two rooms, one a warm
yellow, the other a soft green. A few formal pictures
adorn the walls. The bright exit signs, probably
requiried by law, detract from the otherwise formal
and very attractive rooms. Air conditioning adds
to the comfort.
Food |
Each
evening there is a special printed menu in addition
to the standard one offered throughout the summer.
Usually this includes a variety of first courses
and a special entree. Rack of lamb was this evening's
selection. The set prix includes appetizer, entree,
and dessert, but it is possible to add any selections
you wish from the evening's special offerings. While
we sipped drinks, we couldn't resist seconds in
the crisp rolls served. A Bartlett's tomato soup,
an evening special, arrived in bright orange with
tidbits of avocado, zesty and delicious. The crab,
mussel salad combination was good, but the flavors
blended, losing individuality. The presentation
of both entrees was matched only by taste! The marvelous
cut of halibut, with lobster sauce brought the fish
to life and the scallops, broiled, surrounding a
bed of risotto and corn melted in your mouth. Dessert
followed, a frozen lemon souffle, a delicious contrast
to the rich dinner. A chocolate lover's delight
was a chocolate mousse served over a wonderful sponge
cake; every bit of which was devoured.
Other Observations:
This
restaurant is open year round to our surprise.
The staff is most accomodating and the food we
found extremely good, although not inexpensive.
If formal dining appeals to you, we recommend
a visit to Amelia's this summer.
