| American
Bounty (Tuckernuck Inn) - 60
Union St., , MA 02554 (508) 228-3886 |
|
Intro
This
restaurant has been around for 20 years, but just
last year a new chef took over. This year the
ownership of the restaurant has changed hands,
but the chef will stay on. The prices at the American
Bounty are a little less than some restaurants
we visited and we were delighted to discover that
the food was very good. The chef has created some
fine dining for a little less than the usual
prices.
Ambiance |
Tucked
off a busy street, there is limited parking in front
of the restaurant/inn. White linen tablecloths,
candles, and a single flower set the tone for this
small dining room. The 12 tables are arranged in
a square room. The feeling of a breakfast setting
is not escaped at night. The fan and light clusters
and wall air-conditioner detract from the cosy charm
of the room. If available, request one of the booths
or tables on the edge of the room for a more private
dining experience.
Food |
On
first glance, this seems to be a straight forward
menu with the usual choices, beef, chicken, two
fish, duck...typical restaurant fare.
We shared a fine bottle of wine while sampling the
homemade bread, a different choice baked daily by
the chef. This night's had a nice rosemary crust.
For appetizers one of us chose the Prince Edward
Island mussels, the most expensive choice on the
list, a delicious choice with delicate mussels and
a tasty broth. Generous slices of duck for the main
entree were perfectly cooked. The halibut served
with crab cake turned out to be an excellent choice,
as that fish is quite bland and needs that something
extra. Dessert and coffee finished the meal.
Other Observations:
This
restaurant surprised us with such a fine meal.
We hope to visit it again. Let us know what you
think.
