Intro
This
restaurant, previously known as American Bounty,
has undergone some changes. The chef Joe Sorrao,
red checkered table cloths, and an outdoor eating
area are all new with wonderful results. These
changes have been appreciated by the public and
the popularity of this cozy place has encouraged
the owners to keep it open until New Year's Day
instead of closing as planned on Columbus Day.
This small, reasonably priced restaurant with
excellent food deserves this recognition and your
attention.
Ambiance |
It's
surprising what a difference bold red and white
table cloths make in the dining room. With lanterns
on each table, and a pretty outdoor patio in front
of the Cafe, the mood is very appealing. In the
past it has had a rather coffee shop veneer which
was appropriate for an inn. Now it is a festive
cafe filled with animated conversations that you
might find in Europe. As you enter you pass beside
a very charming outdoor setting, perfect for a warm
night. Inside the dining room are five booths, one
semi-private, separated by white lattice fencing.
In the center are several tables accomodating two
to six people.
Food |
We
began with a spinach salad and an amazing paper
thin designed pastry cup filled with a number of
small delectably seasoned shrimp served over spicey
noodles. Both were wonderful. Just to look at the
shrimp dish was a treat! One entree was salmon with
crisp potatoes and greens, steaming hot in a paper
bag wrap. It was a thick moist chunk wonderful to
taste, and even better, healthy! The other choice
was halibut served with a side dish of tomatoes,
squash, and peppers, very tasty! Sorbet and homemade
peppermint ice cream with chocolate sauce (a personal
favorite and rarely seen on menus) with a light
lemon cookie and coffee ended a wonderful meal.
The prices of this restaurant should tempt you;
we passed up a pumpkin ravioli for $13 and there
are other bargains as well.
Other Observations:
Although
this restaurant is located just off of busy Union
Street, there is ample parking, a great asset
for a down town establishment. And if you are
walking, The Cafe is an easy walk from lower Main
Street. We were so glad we had the opportunity
to visit this year. We liked it last year, but
this year it really has risen in our appraisal.
People are always asking us where to dine, and
we often wish we could recommend a restaurant
that is excellent yet reasonable. We have discovered
one, The Tuckernuck Inn Cafe!
