Intro
The
Boarding House is entering the second season since
its complete renovation. The festive atmosphere
is felt from the moment you enter through the
bar, a popular watering hole throughout the summer.
Although you can dine in a few scattered tables,
be sure to reserve a table in the downstairs main
dining room. This year The Boarding House was
open for the Daffodil Weekend and bustling with
activity. The excellent food, intriguing step
down dining room, and professional service continue
to make this a popular dining choice. The small
outdoor terrace is ideal for drinks and light
dinners on relaxing balmy evenings
Ambiance |
The
dark earth tones of the dining room with its oval
ceiling and wine cabinets at the room's end exude
atmosphere, complimented by the wait staff in brown
safari aprons. Soft hidden lights are perfect for
the below ground setting with high windows where
the feet of passerbys can be seen ambling by. Tables
for two and four are the routine, but, tucked off
to the side, are ideal settings for parties of six,
perfect for parties and special occasions. Laughter
and animated discussions vibrate throughout the
dining room, a very upbeat atmosphere. However for
quiet conversation and romance, this might not be
the best place to visit.
Food |
A
delicious fresh pea soup with creme fraiche was
excellent, while the caesar salad lacked distinction.
Scallops with lobster tail were wonderful and the
swordfish served over crunchy vegetables was tender
and juicy. The warm "Belgium" chocolate
cake served with coffee gelate was rich enough for
the most ardent chocolate devotees. The Boarding
House is beginning the 2002 tourist season with
high marks.
Other Observations:
The
Pearl, the very sophisticated restaurant located
just above The Boarding House, opens later in
the season. Last year the same chef oversaw both
restaurants, but that is the only thing they have
in common. The Pearl is much more formal, and
more expensive. If the food preparation matches
last year's, it is incredible. Check last year's
review for details.
