Intro
Located
just outside town, in a complex of stores known as
Commons, is a charming Italian restaurant featuring, "pasta,
carne Y pesce., authentic Italian cuisine." House
salad and bread are included with the pasta dishes and
entrees with a side dish of pasta also included with
the latter. This small restaurant, about eight indoor
candle-lit tables, and a delightful outdoor patio is
not well known to tourists, even though it has been around
for many years. This is an interesting place for veal
lovers, as veal is not frequently served at other
restaurants. Parking is no problem and Caffe' Bella Vita
is open from 5:30 to 9 every day.
Ambiance:
The pink colorings of the room, fresh flowers and strong
candle glow create warmth throughout the small L shaped
room. The attractive windows make this a charming spot
in any season. The summer patio with a garden backdrop
is an extra delight. We came on a Sunday night at 8 and
to our surprise only one foursome was there, having chosen
the patio. The small size of this restaurant creates
a coziness rarely found on . We had chosen it
especially for our out of town guest, who remarked how
charming it was and wondered at the absence of patrons.
This did affect our visit. In addition, we felt the wait
staff was a bit anxious to end the evening's work. Both
factors may have affected our evening's experience.
Food:
Entrees include many varieties of pasta, chicken,
veal, fish, as well as steak or lamb. We selected the
Chicken Bella Vita ( house special), and salmon over
pasta. We began with the house salad which was bland.
The two entrees were filling, but nothing out of the
ordinary. Before our coffee was served, we watched the
waitress dismantle the patio for the night. Clearly this
was an "off night" and we hope that others
who try this charming location will have some responses
to this review.
Other Observations:
We hesitated to write this review since it varies so
from our visit last year, but in fairness to all
other restaurants we did include it. The ambiance
of this little spot has much appeal and we want it
to do well. We had an off island guest with us, whose
reflections matched ours.
