Intro
Glowing
comments about this small restaurant tucked between
the Roberts House and Manor House, preceeded our
first visit to Centre Street Bistro. There is
a small patio outside, as you enter the attractive
building housing the small appealing restaurant.
With seating for about twenty, the small wooden
tables and attractive art work create an informal
atmosphere. The menu consists of two choices for
appetizer, entree and dessert which change nightly.
The food was excellent and, for the price, a great
bargain on . Lunch and dinner are served,
credit cards are NOT accepted, and in the early
season, it was closed Monday and Tuesday nights.
This may change as the summer season gets underway.
Ambiance |
Cozy
and informal best descrbe this place. Because you
are tucked into this small place, we noticed patrons
might visit with their neighbors, sharing
backgounds and experiences, adding to the relaxed
and friendly atmosphere. The walls are decorated
with pictures. A tiny bar supplies wine and beer
for the restaurant's seated patrons. Outside in
the hall way diners wait for tables on several benches
where they can observe work of local photographers.
Tables for two and four could be expanded to six
or eight if requested ahead.
Food |
We
tried the two choices in each category, a delectable
button mushroom entree served with an interesting
sauce, that our neighbors agreed was first rate.
The salad was lightly seasoned and a fine choice
as well. For the main courses excellent pork roast
was served with mashed potatoes and crisp vegetables
and scallops in a light lobster sauce were delicate
and tasty. A basket of homemade bread with a wonderful
chewy crunch was the equal of any we have had. For
dessert we sampled the chocolate wam cake and ------------.
With coffee this slipped down to every last crumb.
Other Observations:
The
chefs are a husband and wife team. She cooks for
the luncheon menu and he does the evening meals.
Since we were just there for dinner, we can only
rave about his work, but hope to try out lunch
as well soon. Clearly this team has created a
much needed quality restaurant with reasonable
prices. By limiting choices they are able to offer
excellence at a great price. Credit cards are
not accepted.
The wait staff is very friendly and accomodating,
but with one serving so many, she was very busy.
