Intro
This
restaurant with an Italian flair has been on
for quite a while and has been visited by us at
least once a year. In recent visits we have been
disappointed with the food. An attractive restaurant,
it can be very warm on the second floor during
the summer months.
Ambiance |
Stepping
up the high steps you find a large entrance waiting
area and an attractive bar on the left. To the right
is a small room with five attractive tables, several
nestled near windows. A back room is larger with
tall ceilings and an overhead fan; dark flowered
table cloths and paneling give the room character. Two
tables near the kitchen and bar, make them less
ideal. Several other dining areas are present on
the second floor.
Food |
An
excellent whiskey sour and a somewhat "thin"
scotch on the rocks left us wondering if our previous
ventures to this restaurant would be repeated. The
appetizers received a mixed review. The fried green
tomato salad was a great combination of fresh tomatoes,
goat cheese, and crunchy fried green tomatoes. The
mussel dish was less successful, and seemed ordinary
without much flavor. One entree included thinly
sliced and wrapped veal smothered with a heavy sauce.
Enough was left on the plate for the waitress to
ask if we wanted to take it home. The pasta special,
included mussels, clams, and scallops over homemade
pasta, of which the pasta was the clear winner.
The evening ended without dessert.
Other Observations:
The
restaurant was not crowded and we were entertained
watching a wine salesman-connoiseur seated at
the far end of the bar, pitching his wares to
the bartender and several others, presumably planning
for the coming season.
