Intro
Visitors
to our website often ask us where can you take
children? One answer is the SeaGrille located
just outside Town near the Stop and Shop. There
is an outside patio for warm nights in addition
to the indoor dining room offering booster seats,
high chairs and a child's menu providing a welcome
setting for families. The menu, as the restaurant's
name suggests, features a much larger selection
of seafood then most of the restaurants we have
reviewed. A small bar area with a few tables off
of the main dining area provides an appealing
alternate to the main restaurant.
Ambiance |
Families
as well as couples who enjoy a casual relaxed atmosphere
have discovered this spot. The room is large and
a corner area is best for quiet conversation. The
night we visited in late July the place was hopping
as cool weather limited seating to the main dining
area. Luckily, a corner table became available where
we could view the scene, yet be somewhat apart from
it. The wait staff was extremely busy and moved
quickly to keep pace with the packed room. We enjoy
babies and young families and thus did not mind
the natural hubbub this clientel represents. This
is clearly different from other restaurants we have
reviewed.
Food |
If
you are craving chowders, fried fish, schrimp, scallops,
oysters, clams, and the traditional offerings often
found on restaurants along the coast of New England,
this may be the restaurant for you; we have found
none with such variety on the island. W e tried
the Island Quahog chowder which was rated number
one in a recent local newspaper survey. It was similar
to chowders we have sampled for years in New England,
good but not unusual. The grilled center cut swordfish
steak, served with spring vegetable crab hash, and
roasted yellow tomato ketchup was a little dry.
The special of the evening striped bass, like the
swordfish, was average. This restaurant provides
an appealing choice for the visitors who are looking
for good seafood with a special menu for the younger
set.
Other Observations:
Ample
parking, outdoor dining possibilities and the
casual, attactive setting make this one of the
best choices for many visitors to . Off
season, this is an entirely different experience.
On a previous visit, in the Fall, a large table
of workmen relaxed together, clearly off islanders
here for a building project. Children were absent
from the scene, the tourists were gone, and it
was not crowded. Our impression was quite different.
We have included SeaGrille on this year's website
because it provides an alternate choice to the
more upscale and formal restaurants featured in
Greyladygourmet. Open seven days a week from 5:30
to 9 pm, this dining establishment is clearly
a very popular spot on . When you visit,
send us your comments.
