Intro
The
West Creek Cafe is open most of the year, closed
for two weeks in November and two in February,
a real boon for local residents. Tucked in a small
Cape Cod house, we arrived on Wednesday the first
week in May. Tulips and daffodils were planted
in great bunches between the railroad ties along
the steps of the entrance, setting the scene for
the carefully thought out dinner we would soon
enjoy. This is a small extremely appealing restaurant,
ideal for small groups or twosomes to enjoy a
fine dinner and enjoy each other's company.
Ambiance |
The
dining area is one long room, divided into three
sections. The small bar area has three tables which
back onto hard wood benches lined with cushions,
which are positioned a little high for the tables,
otherwise this is a fine quiet nook. The main area
has six tables, desinged for fou diners. The back
room often has a table of six, a round table for
two, and another table, for either two or four.
Table clothes and and candlelight on the table create
a warm cosy atmosphere. We especially enjoy this
restaurant on nippy autumn evenings and understand
how it thrives year round.
Food |
We
began with two appetizers a mushroom soup with Lemon
Grass which was tangy and delicious, and a Maine
crab specially arranged dish with Potshikeis mushrooms,
which was spectaular to view and excellent. Salmon
and hallibut were our two choices for dinner. these,
as we have noted before are very often served and
it is a challenge to render them unusual and creative.
We found them good, but nothing special. Dessert
brought the evening to a rousing close. The male
part of our party loves sourbet and found his exceptional.
Not one to select ices when more creative tastes
are offered,I had a lemon tart that was the perfect
conclusion to the evening, rich and luscious.
Other Observations:
The
restaurant was not crowded on this early May evening,
the the waiter and hostess gave us excellent attention.
We like this restaurant a great deal and plan
to attend early in the summer to see if the entree
we tried was typical or whether the chef has more
creativity and imagination shiehc we can sample
as the summer crowds arrive.
She says: "If you like small intimate restaurants
a little off the main drag, this is one for you.
Although it is priced as most others, it is a
fine choice and you will be glad you came."
He says: "Reliable, consistantly above average
good, good service."
