island is hopping. Come down, join the fun and
tell us what you think of the restaurant(s). This
month we are featuring the Straight Wharf Restaurant.
Intro
We are often asked where to dine with a view of
the water. Of the over forty restaurants on the
island, there are very few choices. The elegant
Straight Wharf is one, located right on the harbor's
edge where the HyLine ferry docks and where, in
good weather, there is outdoor dining on the more
informal deck. The nautical theme of the large
interior dining room is enhanced by high ceilings
decorated with banners, art work, and creative
lighting. The menu, not as extensive as some restaurants,
has a strong emphasis on seafood. Everything is
prepared with great care and the service is impeccable.
For a night out with friends or a special occasion,
this is a favorite.
On the street side of the restaurant there is
a separate but attractive and often very lively
bar, with a few tables for casual dining; oftentimes
this is packed with a youthful crowd to overflow.
Fortunately, this does not affect the atmosphere

Here
are things we consider in our Reviews:
Food:
We look for excellent creative food, served with
flair, from soup to nuts. We cannot sample everything,
but we can give an accurate accounting of what we
sample and describe other choices on the menu.
Ambiance: We know some visitors
want a lively atmosphere with lots of action, others
are looking for elegance with superb service, some
don't mind a small simple place with a few tables,
others want a view. We try to describe the choices,
including different rooms, if possible. We hope
to offer a snapshot in words for the best picture
of all. In addition, we comment on prices
and service, and rank the restaurants
each year. Finally we will often describe our particular
evening with interesting anecdotes; we've had some
very unusual dining experiences over the years and
we share some of them with you.

your holiday on the island. The standards, as
well as the prices, are high. What is great somewhere
else, may be just average here. We hope that using
our website will help you seek out the very finest,
with your particular criteria in mind. In 2001
we began our entrepreneur venture. This year,
2003, we hope you, our clients, will become more
involved in reviewing. It has been and continues
