Bakers Dozen: 6 Early, 6 Too Late

November 19 , 2006
(Boston, MA)

After enjoying a tasty italian dinner at Vinny Testas on Boylston street and reminiscing about the 2001 Baker/Henderson post-pong wrestling brawl, the crew headed over to the world famous Jillians establishment for a spirited match of Beer Pong. Sarge "the Dragon" Mead was present as was Baker "The Mole" and of course Wildman himself. Once again, the international students hogged the tables for a bit not having a clue about the classic true game of Beer Pong.

It was an exciting match-up and preliminary phone dialogue with Sheetz Bitch provided his predictions of Wildman taking the lead early, the dragon rallying and taking the title and Baker faltering thoughout. Andy's prediction was a bit off the mark, though.

Sarge was a heavy favorite in this match-up. Afterall he was taking a nice break from Microsoft on a whirlwind tour back east and somehow managed to swing three nights in a row with the guys while leaving Mylene with Kids at Sarge's parents on the Cape. However, due to a 5AM hangover from the previous night, this tier one player... "the Dragon" was certainly vulnerable.

Baker on the other hand was feeling good, but has not quite stepped up to Dragon pong calibre in the past. Wildman, on the other hand is certainly a wildcard who could be hot or not. Although he has faced fierce pong battles in the past and generally yields to the Dragon, we can't forget the Kaino I Beer Pong match . Right Sarge?

Due to the odd number in this night's Beer Pong line-up, it was decided to play Beta rules and a canadian doubles style of play with a counter clockwise rotation on sink. During piss breaks etc. singles play would continue.

Out of the gate, dark horse Baker was on Fire. Baker's 1st hit of the ball was a sink and he score a second within two minutes. He was playing in a calm, but confident and relaxed manner and it seemed to work wonders for the Mole. Wildman fired back and tied the score up at 2 a piece, but then Baker continued his breakaway pattern making the Score 4-2-0. Before long it was 6-3-0, but then the Dragon scored. Was the Dragon going to make a patented comeback like he has been known to do in the past?

We were a little disappointed overall with the hot blonde wait staff payed little respect to her customers and especially the astute pong players. We're not sure if this disruption hampered Sarge's ability or if he was just still hungover from his marathon drinking session. Sarge did end up sinking two more points but he was clearly not in the game. At that point was 13-9-3 and Baker continued to establish a 4-5 point cushion and lead.

Then there was a sudden silence and two words that totally shocked Baker and Wildman - - especially coming from the 2004 Philly Beer Pong champ.... "No Mas!" That's right ladies and gentlemen, the Dragon threw in the towel and it was all over for him. Realizing that he generally couldn't focus in part due to Wildman's skunk-like gas, the night was abruptly ended for Mr. Mead.

Of course, Baker and Wildman decided to finish things up properly with a game to 21. So the score elevated to 15-10-3 and Baker continued to leverage a 5 point advantage. Wildman would fire back with a retaliation point or two to narrow the gap and Baker would continue to open the lead. ThenWildman narrowed the gap from 3 to 2 points. But Baker still managed to hold on. 19-17-3. Then it was 20-18-3. 20-19-3. 20-20-3. Tie game.

Then Baker sunk again on the virge of capturing a first victory for his collection in many moons. 22-21-3. Sarge was long gone by this point and the Betas were certainly getting sh*tty. Wildman fired back tieing it up 22-22-3. I do have to say, the final volleys from what I recall had some of the best arcs I've seen from a game in a long long time. Perhaps Wildman was reflecting on his Lobbing Lobsters experience, which might have given him an edge over Baker "the Vegas Virgin."

From this point, Wildman put up the scare 22-23-3. Baker was inebriated at this point. After coming so strong out of the gates, would he run out of gas in the end? Unfortunately so. Wildman was the only one with gas (pun intended). Final score in a win-by-2 game,
Baker 22, Wildman 24, Sarge 3.

See you next time on the table at Jillians if you are able.

Beer Pong Player Sinks Throw Backs
Baker 22 1
Wildman 24 1
Dragon 3 -
