Wallyball is typically played in a confined racquetball court. The game can be played 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5. Beyond that the courts become too crowded for comfort. The games follow traditional Volleyball rules. There is first a volley for serve. The ball must go over 3x before it is good. The winner of the volley gets to serve. Games are to 15 points. Points are only earned by the team who served. Servers must serve with one foot touching the back wall. Serves can be overhand or underhand, but must clear the net. Additionally, the serves cannot hit any walls or the serve is considered a fault. Once a fault happens, the other team serves. On the serve, the returning team can return the ball right away, but cannot spike the ball on the opening serve. After the serve is complete, all walls are fair game with the exception of the ceiling. Any hit to the ceiling at anytime is immediately a dead ball. Once the ball comes over the net, each team has three hits to return it over the net. Carrying is not allowed. If the team cannot, the point is over. Also, there is no touching the net during anytime. Touching the net can disqualify a point. Often times courts will have one side of the net with an opening and a weak netting that may not work. If a ball slips through this opening, the point is a do over. Otherwise play ball. Time limits are usually set to 15 or 20 minutes depending on the number of match-ups. These rules may vary by organization.
